I found out a couple of days ago that I have been accepted into the five Cowes Night Markets on Phillip Island that will be happening in the first part of 2010. I've never actually been to one, but I've been told that they are extremely busy markets - packed with summer holiday-makers and tourists, more than happy to part with their holiday dollars. :)
It's a wonderful location, down by the jetty, looking out across the bay, towards French Island and the mainland. It should be a lot of fun!

Phillip Island is a favourite haunt during the summer months. I haven't been there for some time, but it always used to get way too crowded in the holiday periods for my liking. I'm sure that hasn't changed!
A number of years ago, I was going there regularly. I had a friend who owned a bed & breakfast at Ventnor. Right on the foreshore, overlooking the mainland towards Flinders. It was soooooo beautiful. I'd get up in the mornings, before the sun would rise, and go for long walks on the beach. At night, I'd lie there in bed, and listen to the peaceful sounds of the sea. I used to love being there in winter, or the middle of the week, when there was barely a soul to be seen. It was quiet. Peaceful.

Mostly though, I loved being there in the middle of winter, when it was stormy. She lived in a very exposed area, and the weather could be bitter and wild. And I loved it dearly. Walking along the shoreline in the wind, or snuggling up in front of the pot belly at night, all cosy and warm. What could be more invigorating, or soul-renewing?

Eventually my friend sold her b&b, and sadly, over time, we lost contact. I did catch up with her again, but only briefly, a few years back. But I've not had contact with her since.
I look back fondly on those times. And I miss them. I love looking through my old photographs, and remembering. I took these with my very first digital camera - a point and shoot - not long after I bought it, back in April 2005. Gosh. Seems like forever ago. And how much has changed since then!
This abundantly beautiful place will always have a special place in my heart. And I'm really looking forward to going back.
